Fulbright Denmark is getting ready to welcome the new American Fulbright students and scholars to Denmark

In August, Fulbright Denmark will be welcoming 9 students and 3 scholars who will be studying and doing research at Danish universities. This year, a total of 1.975.000 DKK was awarded to the new Fulbrighters to help them fund their stay in Denmark. 1.125.000 DKK was granted to American students and 850.000 DKK was granted to American scholars. The funds are provided by annual state budget allocations by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science and the U.S. Department of State as a joint effort to further Danish-American collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The Fulbright difference

The Fulbright Program is a unique grant because it includes more than just a grant allowance. When you become a Fulbrighter in Denmark, you receive guidance both before and after your arrival.

Before arrival
In preparation for the arrival in Denmark, Fulbright Denmark hosts a virtual initial meeting to welcome the American Fulbrighters. During the meeting, which took place this year on April 27, our Executive Director, Marie Mønsted, and Project Coordinator, Nina Foldager Jung introduced the students and scholars to Fulbright Denmark and the next steps in the process such as applying for a resident permit, looking for housing, confirming travel plans, and so on. Students and scholars are also invited to a 1:1 online meeting with Fulbright Denmark’s Program Coordinator prior to arrival, in addition to the virtual initial meeting. You will also be given information on how to apply for a Danish residence permit, obtain a social security number, open a Danish bank account, and other practical matters.

After arrival

Following arrival, all new Fulbrighters will be invited to a two-day arrival orientation in Copenhagen, where you will learn more about settling into Denmark and have the opportunity to socialize with other American Fulbrighters. Additionally, Fulbright Denmark organizes events such as our halfway seminar, Thanksgiving dinner, other holiday celebrations, and our wrap-up event. Throughout your stay, you can also get general advice on navigating life in Denmark as a student or scholar at a Danish university.

We are very excited to meet all of the new Fulbrighters in Copenhagen in August for our Arrival Orientation!
