Interested in teaching and doing research in Denmark?
Fulbright Denmark has three types of Fulbright scholar grants to Denmark. We offer a Distinguished Scholar Award in American Studies (one academic year), a Community College Faculty Award, two Maritime Awards, and several All Disciplines Awards (one semester).
All U.S. Scholars interested in applying for a Fulbright Scholar grant to Denmark must go to the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Catalog of Awards website to read about the general rules on citizenship, length of stay, academic level, etc. and the country-specific demands for Denmark. You can learn more about Fulbright Denmark’s selection process and criteria here.
The application deadline for the academic year 2027/2028 is Tuesday, September 15 2026 at 5:00 pm EST (UTC -4:00).
Please note that as a Fulbright Scholar you cannot undertake additional jobs while in Denmark; although Danish law has been amended and foreign researchers and Ph.D. students are now allowed to hold sideline jobs without having a separate work permit – this is not the case as a Fulbrighter.
Our grants are always subject to revision for fiscal reasons.
Michele's experience as a Fulbrighter in Denmark
After 9 years at my host university, I was ready for a sabbatical and a serious returning of my career goals. I felt burned out. Coming to Denmark helped me refocus.

The things Fulbright Denmark did to prepare us, with the orientation and handbooks was fantastic. Everything I need to do know was there, it seemed.
