Fulbright Denmark's Annual Arrival Orientation 2023

On August 24 and 25, Fulbright Denmark orchestrated our annual Arrival Orientation at the Fulbright Center, catering to our cohort of American grantees, and scholars. This event is particularly significant for a soft ‘landing’ of our American grantees and their families, as they embark upon their academic and personal journey in Denmark.

This year, we clearly see the result of our recruitment endeavors targeting three focal domains: Sustainability, Space, and Life Sciences. This concerted effort has attracted exceptional American students and scholars to Denmark specializing in these fields. They will be a great asset to their academic host environments.

We are proud that our work at Fulbright Denmark contributes to the internationalization efforts of the institutions of higher education in Denmark – and that our grantees will create memories for life, build strong Danish-American liaisons and get an understanding for each other’s culture and values.

The orientation commenced on Thursday, with the majority of the afternoon devoted to an in-depth presentation of essential practical insights concerning life in Denmark, led by Fulbright Executive Director Sophia Vejlgaard and Fulbright Program Coordinator Nina Foldager Gutiérrez.

After an intense cultural training session and fun cultural case studies about Denmark, we enjoyed a lovely Mediterranean buffet dinner, sharing this occasion with our valued members of the Fulbright Denmark Board.

Friday was dedicated to further immersion in vital practical information, alongside a comprehensive exploration of academic differences between Denmark and the USA. We also offered personalized consultations to address individual queries and concerns.

The highlight of the day was our famous harbor boat trip, a real treat for sightseeing aficionados and those interested in history and architecture. Who doesn’t like Copenhagen in the bright sun of August?!

Anticipating the future, we now eagerly await the forthcoming reunion with our American grantees in November, for our Thanksgiving celebration.
