Troels Elmer Jeppesen was a Fulbright postdoc scholar at Harvard University's Medical School and below, he shares more about his research and his stay in Boston.

“I set out to study the possibility of synthesizing and purifying radioactive peptides in a faster way. This endeavor was undertaken in Boston at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Here, I had the opportunity to work with Professor Steven Liang, who mentored me during my stay. My work on the project was impacted largely by him and his ideas, leading me to test several novel ideas that would accelerate the radioactive labeling process. As research goes, these ideas have not yet been fully developed; some have failed, but the rest forms the basis of my next year of research back in Denmark.

"I would like to share my considerations and advice on going to the US with Fulbright. In short, do it. It is an amazing opportunity, and Fulbright will be there for you throughout your stay"

- Troels Elmer Jeppesen, Fulbrighter 2020-2021

In the process, I worked with the research team in Boston on several other projects related to the radioactive labeling of peptides. From these projects, six different peptides were tested in animal disease models, and from those, three turned out to accomplish the preset goal. As a result of this, 2-3 articles will be published in the near future, and a review paper is underway as well as a radioactive tracer made for the muscarinic receptor in the brain as a bonus.

The main accomplishment of my stay has to be the working environment in Boston. They seem to have a higher gear and a faster pace than we are used to in Denmark. This, alongside the huge expertise of the Professor and his research group, really impressed me, and I will take this with me in my future career in Denmark.

Troels was a postdoc scholar at Harvard University for AY 2020/2021

All of this would not have been possible without help from Fulbright Denmark, not only because of the grant but, mostly, because of the visa I received along with the grant. I was able to travel to the US when no one else could because of the grant. The help and advice regarding all of this have been invaluable to me and my stay in the US.

Finally, I would like to share my considerations and advice on going to the US with Fulbright. In short, do it. It is an amazing opportunity, and Fulbright will be there for you throughout your stay which means you can focus on the new culture and the academic purpose of your stay. I now have an experience that I will remember forever. In addition, my wife gave birth to our son in Boston, so we will forever be connected to that beautiful American city.

Thank you Fulbright Denmark for making this possible for me.”
