Two Danish Scholars have been selected

We are happy to announce that the two Danish scholars representing the Kingdom of Denmark at the Fulbright Arctic Initiative III (FAI III) are Peter Linde and Lill Rastad Bjørst.

Peter Linde is Chief Counsellor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. His project title for FAI III is “A Kingdom Caught in the Middle – How to Secure low Tension in the Arctic” and will focus on the cooperation between the Arctic States – formally and informally, within the Arctic structures and beyond, including in organizations outside the Arctic framework, such as the UN and the IMO.

Lill Rastad Bjørst is Associate Professor and Head of the Centre for Innovation and Research in Culture and Living in the Arctic, Aalborg University. Her project title is “Learning from the US and Greenland—Arctic infrastructure in a changing environment and the need for a new conceptual framework for multidisciplinary climate change research.”

Her research questions are: What are the critical links between climate change, new infrastructure, and local Arctic communities? How could new approaches enhance the coproduction of knowledge in Arctic climate change research? What could be the coping strategies and climate policy recommendations for Greenland on its way to independence?

FAI III brings together professionals, practitioners, and researchers from the United States, Canada, The Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland and the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden for group seminars and an individual exchange to address key research and policy questions related to fostering a secure and sustainable Arctic.

The three main thematic areas are:

  • Arctic Infrastructure in a Changing Environment
  • Community Dimensions of Health

We have had four citizens from the Danish Kingdom participate in the two first rounds of this Fulbright initiative. The initiative helped them take their research to another level and to reach new conclusions.
