Sanne Vammen Larsen, Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholar, 2018-2019

The Fulbright Arctic Initiative (FAI) brings together professionals, practitioners, and researchers from the United States, Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland and the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden for group seminars and an individual Fulbright exchange to address key research and policy questions related to fostering a secure and sustainable Arctic.

Sanne Vammen Larsen,  Associate Professor at Aalborg University, was part of the second Fulbright Arctic Inititiatve in 2018-2019. About the program she says:

“In our research groups we have collected our combined knowledge and resources, and have thus been able to reach new conclusions”.

The Fulbright Arctic Initiative II thematic research teams, who during 18-months of collaborative work focused on 1) supporting health and well-being to ensure that Arctic communities develop pathways to thrive and, 2) addressing scales of risk from local to global to enhance economic sustainability in the Arctic.

Their work resulted in the Fulbright Arctic Initiative Policy Brief presented and discussed at the final symposium Fulbright Arctic Initiative: Reseach and Policy Findings for Sustainable Arctic Communities and Economics.  

The third cohort of the Fulbright Arctic Initiative will also stimulate international research collaboration on Arctic issues while increasing mutual understanding between people of the United States and member countries of the Arctic Council. Using a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, Fulbright Arctic Initiative III will address public-policy research questions relevant to Arctic nations’ shared challenges and opportunities.
