Dr. Katherine Richardson is the third keynote speaker at the Fulbright Denmark Anniversary Symposium.

Dr.  Katherine Richardson is Professor in Biological Oceanography at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. She also serves as the leader of the Sustainability Science Centre, University of Copenhagen, and is formerly the Vice Dean at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, 2007-2012, and pro-rector at Aarhus University, 2002-2007.

She did her D.Sc. at University of Copenhagen and her Ph.D. at University of North Wales, United Kingdom. Her overall research focus is the role of biological processes and biodiversity on the cycling of carbon in the upper ocean and its impact on food webs and the global carbon cycle. Currently, she is researching 1) climatic control of marine ecological processes, 2) the effect of physical/chemical conditions on biodiversity and size distribution of phytoplankton, and 3) the formation and productivity in deep chlorophyll maxima.

She is the co-editor in chief of Marine Ecology Progress Series, published by Inter-Research Science Publisher, and the author/co-author of over 20 scientific publications aimed at a general audience. She has received multiple prizes and honors, including The Order of Dannebrog in 2011.
