Exploring New Exoplanets

Grant purpose: Developing a High-Precision Model of Stellar Noise for the Detection of Rocky Exoplanets

The Fulbright Denmark program gave me an incredible opportunity engage in cutting edge research in the field of exoplanets.

Over the course of 10 months, I worked with researchers at the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark to discover nearly 100 new exoplanets.

We started out analyzing 275 candidates of which 149 were validated as real exoplanets. In turn 95 of these planets have proved to be new discoveries.

Valuable experience

My Fulbright experience has taught me how to develop and maintain fruitful international collaborations with fellow researchers, helping me to continue working with my Danish research group.

As a PhD student at UC Berkeley, I am now using my experience from Denmark to apply novel statistical techniques to measuring exoplanet masses.

The Fulbright Denmark program allowed me to experience and learn from another culture as well as bring valuable skills to current and future research projects; it has undoubtedly been a highlight of my professional career.
