Building a Fulbrighter Community Across Europe

On February 4-8, Alanna Schenk, U.S. Fulbrighter in Denmark, attended the EU-NATO Seminar in Brussels and Luxembourg hosted by Fulbright Belgium. Alanna was joined by 40 other Fulbright grantees studying, researching, and teaching all over the EU.

Over the course of the week, Alanna and the other Fulbrighters were warmly welcomed by professionals at the U.S. Mission to the European Union, NATO, the European Court of Justice, the European Commission, and the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg.

A unique experience

Touring these institutions with like-minded students was incredibly inspiring and Alanna describes how it helped her to visualize how these institutions impact both her academic and personal life. Through presentations and interactive learning, the participants were able to develop a comprehensive understanding of their important role in each of their respective host countries.

Alanna concludes: “However, the true value of the Fulbright EU-NATO seminar was the amazingly unique experience of meeting other Fulbrighters living all over Europe who have now become my friends. Sharing ourselves, our life stories, and respective knowledge was truly impactful for me. Moving forward, the variety of perspectives I encountered will shape my remaining time in Denmark.”
