March 23 – 25 the Fulbright Arctic Initiative III (FAI III) kicks off with a virtual opening meeting.

FAI III is a 18-months research program that brings together professionals, practitioners, and researchers from the United States, Canada, The Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland and the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden for group seminars and an individual exchange to address key research and policy questions related to fostering a secure and sustainable Arctic.

A Danish Guest Speaker

At the opening meeting Astrophysicist Michael Linden-Vørnle will be one of the guest speakers.

Michael Linden-Vørnle works as a Chief Adviser at the National Space Institute at DTU (DTU Space) and is leading the institute’s center for unmanned systems (DTU Space DroneCenter). In recent years, Michael Linden-Vørnle’s main research focus has been how to employ satellites and unmanned systems in all domains (air, sea, and land) to establish a flexible and scalable infrastructure in the Arctic providing both communication and situational awareness. In this context he has been the lead scientist for the operational testing of a Danish build nano-satellite for Arctic surveillance launched in 2018.

The Fulbright Arctic Initiative brings together a network of scholars, professionals and applied researchers for a 18-months research program.

The third cohort of the Fulbright Arctic Initiative has commenced their work

The two Danish scholars representing the Kingdom of Denmark at FAI III are Peter Linde, Chief Counsellor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and Lill Rastad Bjørst, Associate Professor and Head of the Centre for Innovation and Research in Culture and Living in the Arctic, Aalborg University.

We have had four citizens from the Danish Kingdom participate in the two first rounds of this Fulbright initiative. The initiative helped them take their research to another level and to reach new conclusions. We are excited to see the results of this third cohort.
