It varies when the deadline is – Most universities have a deadline between November and March for the following academic year. As soon as you know which university you want to apply to, find out when its deadline is.

Ivy League is an expression used about some of the most prestigious and sought after universities in the U.S.

With a solid and strong application with excellent grades, great recommendations, a strong ‘personal statement’ you should have the same chances as others applying. Spend a lot of time preparing your application in order to optimize your resume etc. Remember, the U.S. universities assesses the applicants on grades, but also extracurricular activities such as relevant work experience, volunteering, political activity, sports and cultural interests.
Be realistic – If you are not a top-student in Denmark, you probably aren’t in the U.S. either.

There are over 4,000 universities in the U.S. Although only about a handful is known to you, that does not mean that there aren’t other very good schools. The most important thing for you is to think about what you want to study – Not just where the weather is nice. Often it will be less expensive to study at a lesser known university.

Yes! You always need a visa to study in the U.S. As a student you should get a student visa; often a J-1 or a F-1 visa. It is up to the American university to decide which visa you get; it is also the U.S. university that helps you with the process, and who will provide you with the documents needed to apply for the visa at the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen.

Yes. It is very important to be properly insured when you travel. We recommend that you buy a Danish insurance, as it can be very expensive to go to the doctor or to the hospital in the U.S.

Many American universities will require that you buy their insurance. however, this will normally not give you as good a coverage as a Danish insurance will. Therefore, it can be a good idea to try and get the American insurance waived and only have a Danish one – Talk to your university about this.
